Via Las Vegas

Or as my dad calls it Lost Wages.  I'm not much of gambler so we didn't hit the strip that much while we were out west.  The majority of our second week away was spent with Jen (my sister), Mike (my brother-in-law), and Lilly (my adorable niece).  Even though we didn't spent time on the strip we definitely kept busy.    Jen, Lilly and I undertook a 10 hour round trip drive to Page AZ to visit the Antelope Canyons.  It was well worth it.  Though we missed the noon tour, when the sun perfectly lights the canyon, so they say.  Our one o'clock tour met all my expectations.  If you plan on visiting these canyons take note they reside on an Navajo Indian reservation and they require you to purchase a ticket for a tour.  From what I understand free hiking is not an option.  Oh and they only take cash, which is what caused us to miss the noon tour.  We were $10 shy and had to drive around town looking for an ATM.  The funniest part of this search was that when we got back to the canyon parking lot I found extra money in a different pocket of my purse.  Had I found this money earlier I wouldn't have had go on an ATM hunt in the first place.  Lesson learned...throughly check your purse before taking off on a mad hunt for an ATM.  :)

Like I said earlier, all the effort that went into seeing this natural wonder, was well worth it.  It will be clear when you look at the other images in my Nevada & Arizona gallery.  It will also not go unnoticed that I was obsessed with capturing the rays of light in the canyons.    I also loved the textures and colors the rocks took on when the light streamed through the crevasses of the canyon.  It was a warm and inviting atmosphere.  I definitely plan to visit these canyons again soon.

The things to do in Las Vegas other than gamble...

Fremont Street-  This is considered Old Vegas.  You'll see street performers and others dressed in crazy and sometimes clever costumes.  The entire street is covered with the largest TV in the world.  Every hour a different music montage is shown over your head.  There is also a zip line overhead, which I definitely want to try next time.  I was wearing a dress this time trip and I didn't want to give my fellow tourists another kind of show, lol.  ;)  Fremont Street Experience link

Du-Par's Restaurant and Bakery- This eatery is located in the Golden Gate Casino, which is the oldest and smallest casino on Fremont.  It's open 24 hours, and they always serve breakfast!  I had a BLT with avocado at 11:30pm.  It was so good.  Jen ordered their pancakes, also a good choice because they melt in your mouth.

Mob Museum- I didn't get to see it this time around.  However, from my sister's recommendation and the reviews I read made it seem like a fun and interesting experience. The Mob Museum link

Lake Mead-  If you've had enough of the city and want to experience the outdoors I'd recommend going to Lake Mead.  It's beautiful and it's so cool to see the Hoover Dam from the waters view.  We experienced the lake with friends of Jen and Mike's, who happened to have a boat docked there.  But there are also tour services you can purchase.  Lake Mead Cruises being one of them.
