MIA equals Me, but not without a good reason.  Since my last post my world has completely transformed into something brand new.  On July 5th 2013, my husband and I were blessed with the arrival of our baby boy.  He's now 8 months (7mths in the above picture), and I finally feel like I'm getting some semblance of a handle on this thing called parenthood.  The first 3 months were real doozies.  I know some women out there who seem to transition into motherhood with easy and grace, not missing a beat.  I mean come on caring for an infant who eats, sleeps (most the day), and poops can't be that difficult.  This is the doe eyed picture I had in my mind and I believed I could be one of these graceful and natural mothers.  It turns out this was not the case (over whelmed was more like it)and sleep deprivation is a very real thing.  I can see now how withholding sleep can be a very effective form of torture.  Our little one was the eat, cry, poop, repeat model (note- no sleeping).  It wasn't until about his 5th week that we went to the doctor in desperation because nothing we did (feeding, changing, rocking, swaddling, singing etc) would soothe him.  So there had to be something going on internally, at least this was our logic.  Our doc was great, she was very patient with us when we showed up without an appointment (no joke).  She said, "he may have acid reflux, I can give you a script for baby zantac and we'll see if that works.  If the medicine doesn't give him any relief, then he's probably just a colicky baby."  Fortunately, the medicine worked brilliantly.  He was a completely different baby within a few days.  He was starting to sleep more, not a ton but more.  It was around his 10 week mark that he actually started to sleep through the night.  This was a game changer!  My husband and I started to feel less and less like zombies and more like actual human beings again.  But best of all we were thrilled to have a well rested, happy little boy.

Now that the fog has lifted, I'm gaining confidence in my mothering abilities with each passing day, and fully understand that this new roll will be forever evolving.  I am very grateful to be in this space and state of mind.  It is with this new found confidence and view of my world that my 2014 mantra is "Find the Balance".

I'm realizing that my "time" was something I took for granted before our baby boy arrived.  These days "me time" doesn't seem to exist.  A new reality I'm sure all first time parents go through.  It is my goal this year to find the balance in my life with the many hats I wear (wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and photographer).  Striving to find time to feed my soul .  With that said I am working to get back to photographing, creating, writing, and posting blog entries.  It just may take me a little more time to get it all done.  And although food and travel will continue to be my primary subject matter, you may get a glimpse of our baby boy too.  I hope you will stick around with me for the ride.

P.S.  So if you did the math you know our baby boy turned 10 months old in May.   This post was actually written two months ago.   I stepped away after I wrote it and then life happened, so I am just getting around to posting it now.  Reminding me that my life balancing skills continue to be a work in progress.  ;)
